LiveJournal Under DDoS Attacks

A friend of mine got an email from LiveJournal that doesn't go into too much detail about the DDoS attack other than it is 'political' in nature. This is what the email said:

There is a new announcement in news
As most of you know, LiveJournal has been the victim of repeated, large-scale DDoS attacks over the last two weeks. These attacks are against multiple journals worldwide, several of which are political in nature. LiveJournal believes strongly in the ideal of freedom of expression, and we're working very hard to ensure that users around the world have a place where their voices can be heard.

Based on our analysis of the traffic, most of the attacks are coming from entire networks in the same subnets, suggesting participation by multiple network operators. We have made significant changes to our systems and processes to battle attacks of this nature and are continuing to adjust to each new attack as quickly as we can. We share your frustration in not being able to access LiveJournal during these attacks -- please know that we're doing everything within our power to get this behind us.

The 'political' DDoS attacks is said to be coming from Russia, which has people assuming it's the Russian government silencing dissent {Link}. Wow. I wish Russia was more like America, where if you have political, subversive content against corporations and/or the government the media runs a large scale smear campaign until you look like an insane, liberal lunatic - that is "Democracy"! Look at what happened to Wikileaks; for weeks the American media talked about Wikileaks thus, advertising its content [seem a little weird to anyone else?], but even better, turning its founder into a "terrorist", as Joe Biden and Oliver North said, while Barack Obama expressed 'concern'; "I'm concerned... about the disclosure of sensitive information from the battlefield that potentially jeopardize individuals or operations." The nanny state and the corporate step father continues to fail at the moral high ground making Wikileaks just another source where we can find "daddy's" porn stash. So the difference between America and Russia is that in America you can count on information being smeared if it threatens the government and corporate corruption instead of silencing it. On a quick note I'd like to add that the Tea Party, of all organizations, is against Wikileaks. What? I thought for sure they were for government transparency. What is this about? Surely now they can find out if Barack Obama is a non-American born, Muslim Socialist, right? No, instead we find out that Obama is like any other president, a war criminal and corporatist. Gee, what a surprise.

Anyway I turned this 'LiveJournal DDoS Attack' into something a little more political and conspiratorial than I expected. Well, so be it. The internet is under aggressive attack when it comes to social, political and business freedoms: LiveJournal isn't the only one to be attacked in recent history; WordPress.com got attacked, as well, from China, which was not politically motivated - it had more to do with business {Link2}. And Comcast was also accused of slowing traffic on torrent sites {Link3}. So what does any of this even mean? I have no idea. Just making some broad connections until we can collectively find the missing link, as long as we're not redirected or our internet connections suddenly slowed.
